Dr. Howard Benyon, Superintendent of Schools

Howard Benyon, Ed.D., began serving as the Superintendent of Cape Girardeau Public Schools (CGPS) July 1, 2023, after serving as Deputy Superintendent of Elementary Education. While working in his previous role with the District, Dr. Benyon oversaw the development of the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) He originally joined CGPS in 2019 as the Deputy Superintendent of Secondary Education.

Dr. Benyon has 24 years of experience in the field of education with 18 years as a school administrator. Prior to working in Cape, he was superintendent of Scott County Central where he was named the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA) New Superintendent of the Year. He has served as a principal in the Woodland R-IV School District in Missouri and was an administrator in Oklahoma's second-largest school district, Tulsa Public Schools (TPS). Dr. Benyon was also nominated twice for the TPS Teacher of the Year Award while working as a Kindergarten teacher and reading interventionist.

Dr. Benyon holds a Doctorate in Education from Saint Louis University, a Master of Science in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership from Oklahoma State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Southwest Missouri State. He and his wife Jamie have a son, Cade, who is attending Mississippi State University. The Benyons have two rescue dogs.
